Wisdom Beyond Degrees turned the search for mentorship to the chatty uncle, friendly receptionist, classmate, doorman, neighbor, and others in our communities to leverage their rich and diverse experiences within their hobbies. Now we are taking this search online.

Search Google for, "What is the small plastic or metal tip at the end of a shoelace that prevents it from fraying?" and it will correctly answer an aglet.

However, search Google for "starting an e-commerce t-shirt business over the weekend with a limited budget" and you will find yourself jumping between multiple sites gathering pieces of the business puzzle. By the time you write the plan, the weekend may be over. 

Google's search engine does not handle complex questions with context specific to your situation but this is where Large Language Models (LLMs) thrive.

Large Language Model (LLM)

The internet is the largest library in the world with millions of answers to our questions and LLMs such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude do a great job of contextualizing responses to the nuances of your situation.

LLM is a special type of Artificial Intelligence that uses chain-of-thought prompting, a technique that guides models to articulate their reasoning process step-by-step, mirroring human problem-solving methods and resulting in more accurate, transparent, and comprehensible responses to complex questions.

Prompting an LLM is a strategy for formatting your questions to get the best answers.

We hope that success is not limited by access to information and that all our readers make the best decisions in school, work, business, or personal affairs with or without the help of LLMs. 

Here are some tips for prompting LLMs to achieve your goal:

1. G - Goal: Explain your ideal outcome clearly.

2. O - Outline key facts concisely to narrow the focus.

3. A - Address potential obstacles or concerns.

4. L - Layout: Specify desired format for the answer.
